How to tell if your VPN is working
When a VPN is working, the rest of the internet should see the VPN server’s IP, not yours. The VPN server’s IP belongs to a hosting provider, the city shown will be the city the VPN server is in (often very different from your real city), and the connection type will be flagged as a data center or VPN. How VPN detection works
Every public IP belongs to an autonomous system (AS) — usually an ISP, a hosting provider, or a mobile carrier. VPN providers use hosting provider IPs because the VPN servers themselves run in data centers. This tool cross-references the IP’s AS and registered organization against known VPN, proxy, and Tor exit-node lists, and flags the connection type accordingly.
Signs your VPN is not working
A few quick signals that your VPN is leaking: the city shown is your real city, the ISP is your real ISP (not a hosting provider), and the connection type reads "residential" or "business" instead of "hosting" or "VPN". If the tool flags your connection as exposed while you have a VPN client running, your VPN tunnel is down and traffic is going over your regular connection.

How do I know my VPN is connected?
Open this page while your VPN is running. If the tool shows a different country and city from your real one, and the connection type is "hosting" or "VPN", your tunnel is up. If it shows your real city and your real ISP, the tunnel is down.
Can a VPN hide my IP completely?
From the sites you visit, yes. From your VPN provider, no — the provider sees your real IP because your traffic enters their network before exiting to the public internet.
Does Tor show up as a VPN?
No. Tor exit nodes are tracked separately. This tool flags Tor connections specifically so you can tell the three apart at a glance.
My VPN shows my real city — what is wrong?
Common causes: the VPN tunnel dropped mid-session, the VPN is configured to use split tunneling for browser traffic, or the VPN client hasn’t finished handshaking. Disconnect, reconnect, and re-check.
